Kasey Dylon Wallace: Man released on bail for 12 charges relating to allegedly ramming police car with buggy

The man accused of driving an off-road buggy directly at police after allegedly trying to ram an officer in bushland to prevent the arrest of a young woman has been granted the strictest form of bail. Kasey Dylon Wallace, 29, was released on home detention bail by the “absolutely barest of margins” by Kalgoorlie Magistrate William Yoo on Thursday, for 12 charges which he has not pleaded to. The details of the May 26 allegations against Mr Wallace were not read in court, but were released by police last week alongside video footage. Mr Wallace’s charges include reckless driving to escape police, two counts of intent to harm, and assault with intent to prevent arrest of a person. Mr Wallace’s lawyer did not appear for him in court on Thursday, but Mr Yoo continued with the bail application in his absence given the favourable report received, and noted his lawyer previously said there would be issues to contest. Mr Yoo said he was “reluctant to consider bail” when it was first raised earlier this week, but he believed the conditions put forward were enough to allow it by the “absolute barest of margins”. He urged Mr Wallace to “treat it as a privilege”, and said if there were any “stuff-ups” he would be remanded in custody. Mr Wallace was also released on a condition that he not consume drugs, and a protective bail condition that he not communicate with, or be within 50m, of the co-accused Emily Mills.
