Cheese and gin made locally in Harvey will be included in more than 500 products being showcased at WA’s only food and beverage trade show.

Harvey Cheese and St Duke’s Distillery are promoting some of their bestsellers at Buy West Eat Best’s annual trade exhibition, Meet the Buyer.

Held at the Crown Perth on Tuesday, the trade show will connect local businesses in the food and beverage industry with potential buyers and distributors.

Harvey Cheese and St Duke’s Distillery general manager Pieter Lottering said the cheese showcased would include blue cheese, feta and brie.

He said the business wanted to use the opportunity to establish itself further in the food services market.

Three gins will also be on display and will include a dry gin, an Australian gin and its best selling lemon myrtle gin.

Mr Lottering said they were looking for a selection of establishments across the State to showcase their WA-made products.

The distillery uses the whey captured directly after cheese making to help create some of its alcohols — it is one of just two in the country to do so.

Mr Lottering said it was a sustainable way of dealing with the leftover products.

“This is a beautiful way to take a by-product from the cheese making and make it into something useful and yummy,” he said.

It’s a unique process which won the business the WA Innovation award at the 2025 Dairy Product Awards of Excellence.

Mr Lottering encouraged larger food service clients attending the event to support local products.

“Especially in the dairy business, specifically cheese, it is so easy to just grab for the cheap import,” he said.

“There’s a couple of us cheese makers, we think we make really high quality products (and) it’s not overly expensive.”
