$1300 fine for ‘abhorrent’ acts

A 23-year-old man who failed to show up to his court hearing at the Bunbury Magistrates Court on Friday has been fined more than $1000 for his “abhorrent behaviour”. On August 27, Joseph James Archer was asked to leave the Australind Tavern premises after behaving in a drunk and disorderly manner, Police Prosecutor Sgt Karl Rep told the court. “After being asked to leave the premises, Archer then walked over to the bottle shop, stood at the counter and drank a bottle of beer in front of a staff member,” Sgt Rep said. “The police were called to the location and Archer was placed in a police lock up van and escorted away from the premises. “While in the police van, he stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited before taking his clothes off and defecating in the van.” Archer was charged with disorderly behaviour in public and failing to leave a licensed premises when required to do so by an authorised person. Appalled by Archer’s behaviour, Magistrate Joe Randazzo did not hold back when issuing him with a fine. “This abhorrent behaviour is disgusting in my view,” Magistrate Randazzo said. “It is no wonder police get frustrated when they have to deal with things like this. “I am issuing him a $1000 fine for the disorderly behaviour charge and a $300 fine for the failing to leave a licensed premises charge.”
