Brunswick mother and son Vivien Maclean and Nathan Pohe to fight cannabis allegations

A Brunswick mother and son are set to fight allegations of cultivating and possessing cannabis with the intention of selling it to other people. Vivien Jennifer Maclean, 72, and Nathan Paul Pohe, 47, both appeared in Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday last week where they stood accused of cultivating cannabis with intent to sell or supply, as well as possessing the same drug with intent to sell or supply. Ms Maclean pleaded not guilty to the two charges. Her son had entered not-guilty pleas to the same charges at a previous hearing. It was alleged police uncovered a number of cannabis plants and material when officers executed a Misuse of Drugs and Weapons search warrant at their Brunswick home on July 30. The charges were committed to the Bunbury District Court for a trial listing hearing on March 30, with both Mr Pohe and Ms Maclean having their respective bail, which included reporting conditions to Australind police, extended. Mr Pohe also previously pleaded not guilty to possessing heroin, various drug paraphernalia items, including a set of scales, smoking implements and various syringes, as well as several weapons, which were also allegedly uncovered in the search. However, the corresponding charges were adjourned to April 7 for a trial allocation hearing once the District Court trial date was finalised. Ms Maclean has posted a number of photos with her son to her Facebook page, stating in a comment on one of them: “What more could a person want?” Last year, she shared a post about the importance of mothers teaching their sons “rules” for life, which included calling and visiting parents often and protecting family. Cultivating cannabis with intent to sell or supply carries a maximum penalty of a $20,000 fine or a 10-year prison term whereas possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply carries a maximum penalty of a $100,000 fine or a 25-year prison term.
