A South West man has been fined $1000 for travelling along Forrest Highway at an “extraordinarily high” speed. Despite not appearing in court, Robin Winston Cortereal was convicted in his absence of reckless driving during a sitting of the Bunbury Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The court was told Cortereal was driving his vehicle along Forrest Highway in the Lake Clifton area around midday on November 12 where a speed camera captured him travelling at 158km/h, 48km/h higher than the posted 110km/h speed limit. In a police interview, conducted at a later date, Cortereal admitted he was the driver of the vehicle at the time of offending. Before handing down the penalty, Magistrate Linda Keane noted the speed was “extraordinarily high” along a busy road during the day. Along with the fine, Cortereal was ordered to pay court costs and his licence was disqualified for six months.
