Shire of Dardanup’s Digital Connection Program returns for 2024, teaching over-65s digital literacy

An intergenerational technology mentoring program has returned to Eaton for another year, with the aim of increasing digital literacy and confidence.

The Shire of Dardanup’s Digital Connection Program was launched last November with support from the Department of Communities, with senior community members enhancing their skills in the digital world with help from students at Eaton Community College.

Dardanup shire president Tyrrell Gardiner said the first round of workshops offered one-on-one mentoring sessions to those aged 65 and over.

“Program participants were able to ask all the questions they had around using technology, such as their mobile phones, laptops or even software like Microsoft,” he said.

“They could do so in a supportive environment and learnt from the next generation of tech-savvy students.

“The feedback from both participants and mentors showed that the program creates a sense of connection for two different generations that can really learn from each other.“

The Shire of Dardanup has recommenced the program, with the Eaton Sports Pavilion to hold the sessions every Tuesday from 11.20am-12.20pm until March 26.
