SWFL 2022: Eaton Boomers hold off Donnybrook by four points in nailbiter to remain in hunt for the finals

The Eaton Boomers held off Donnybrook in a nailbiter at the weekend to remain in the hunt for the finals. The Boomers managed just one point in the final term as the Dons came home with a wet sail, but the home side prevailed 10.8 (68) to 10.4 (64). Eaton headed into the clash having not one a game since round right, with a win vital to keep them in the hunt for a top-five finish. Meanwhile, the Dons travelled to Glen Huon Reserve looking for a fourth straight victory and with their sights set on staying in touch with the top three. It was the Boomers who started best, with Jordan Falco, Thomas Shanahan and Jayme Osiejak getting their hands on the ball and providing some drive for the home side, while Cody Miller, Sean Lynch and Luke Dale tried their best to keep the Dons in the hunt. Donnybrook’s straight kicking was the only reason they were still in the game at the half-time break, with Eaton leading 8.6 (54) to 5.0 (30) despite dominating the first two quarters of football. It was the Dons’ small forwards that got them back into the contest, with Jake Anderson and Shane Cristaldi kicking three goals each to see them trail by 19 at the final change, 10.7 (67) to 8.0 (48). In a tense final term, the home side kicked just one goal, while Donnybrook had six scoring shots. But despite kicking straight all day, and having not kicked a behind in the first three terms, the visitors could only manage two goals and four behinds in the last to go down by four points.
