As the South West Football League gets set to return from the Easter bye, Bunbury and Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault are both looking to continue building momentum. The Bulldogs are set to host the Lions at Payne Park on Saturday during the third round of the 2023 SWFL season. As one of five teams yet to drop a game in the early stages of the season, Bunbury sit in third place on the ladder with a 1-0 record and will be keen to impress in their first home game. The Bulldogs started their season strong with a 3.5 (23) to 1.2 (8) win over Carey Park during the opening round and then have had the past two weeks off due to a bye in round two before the Easter long weekend. The upcoming match will also serve as the start of a seven-game stretch of matches until Bunbury’s next bye in round nine. Meanwhile, the Lions have been starting to find form after pulling off a 3.5 (23) to 3.1 (19) win over Carey Park in a thrilling day out at Brunswick Oval during round two. As one of six teams to have played two games in the season’s first two rounds, HBL sit in fourth place on the ladder with a 1-1 record, having previously lost to Harvey Bulls during round one. Latisha Hough and Riley Brine have already emerged as strong players for the Lions, having been named as one of the Lions’ best in their matches so far. The last time the Bulldogs and the Lions met was in round 17 of the 2022 season, when Bunbury pulled off a convincing 7.6 (48) to 1.2 (8) win.
