Traffic chaos as freeway emergency lanes blocked off by peak-hour crash in Perth

A crash on Mitchell Freeway has sparked peak-hour traffic chaos, with multiple northbound lanes blocked and traffic slow on approach to Hay Street in the Perth CBD.

Police and a towing service are at the scene of the crash, which was reported just after 7.30am on Wednesday, with motorists warned to expect delays and proceed with caution.

Main Roads said the left and right emergency lanes had been blocked, with motorists were out of their vehicles.

It urged drivers to exercise caution in the area, with traffic cameras showing drivers crawling past the scene.

St John Ambulance was called to the incident but no one needed to be taken to hospital.

It comes as several breakdowns add to the morning traffic headaches across the metropolitan area.

A vehicle has broken down on the Tonkin Highway northbound at Dunreath Drive near Perth Airport, blocking the right emergency lane.

Motorists are also out of their vehicles at the scene, with traffic busy through the area.

A separate breakdown on the Kwinana Freeway northbound at Farrington Road in North Lake has blocked the left emergency lane.

Main Roads warned motorists to take care, with traffic already heavy in the area.
