Major Crash officers are investigating after a man believed to be in his 60s died in a car crash in the Wheatbelt on Sunday.

The victim was driving his orange Ford Ranger utility southbound on Albany Highway in Williams when it left the road and smashed into a tree.

The car flipped and came to rest on its side near Westmere Road about 10.30am, leaving the driver critically injured.

Sadly he died at the scene.

The West Australian understands the man was not carrying any identification at the time of the crash, and that police have yet to formally identify him.

Investigators wish to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the Ford Ranger travelling in the area prior to the crash.
