Motorcyclist killed in Toodyay, three other dead in another crash in Stoneville as WA road toll climbs

Four people are dead in two separate crashes in less than 24-hours on WA roads, adding to the growing road toll from the school Easter holiday period. A motorcycle crash happened about 12.15am on Sunday, when a 24-year-old man riding a Harley Davidson on Hammersley Street lost control and crashed near the intersection of Fiennes Street and Duke Street in Toodyay. He received critical injuries and died at the scene, police said. The tragedy followed another vehicle crash in the neighbouring suburb of Stoneville at 8.55am on Saturday, when a black Holden Monaro HQ travelling south on Stoneville Road left the road and crashed into a tree. The 58-year-old male driver and two 62-year-old male passengers received critical injuries and died at the scene. The aftermath of the fatal crash was still visible on Saturday afternoon, with at least one large tree brought down and several others damaged after being struck by the car. Following the fatal Easter long weekend on the roads during which five people were killed, WA Minister Jessica Stojkovski said the Government had invested heavily in road safety. “The Government is always looking at ways to improve road safety and decrease our road toll,” she said. “You will have seen that we’ve had an increase in the number of cameras that we’ve had out on the roads targeting specific driver behaviours. “We have seen that those cameras have resulted in change in driver’s behaviour, so we are always looking at other ways that we can reduce the road toll.” Major Crash investigators are conducting examinations of both crash sites and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
