Update 4pm: A luxury BMW that went up in flames in Scarborough early this morning was reported stolen by its owner hours later.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the burning car on Kay Street about 12:45am.

Whoever was driving the BMW sedan at that time side-swiped a parked Honda sedan and hit a tree before coming to a stop on a patch of long grass.

Investigators said the car’s hot engine caused the grass to catch fire — completely destroying the car.

Police said the driver left the scene and didn’t report the incident to police.
