WA Cricket post job ad seeking replacement for outgoing coach Adam Voges to recruitment website

WA Cricket have taken a major step in their search for a replacement for all-conquering coach Adam Voges, posting a job advertisement for the position to a recruitment website. The organisation announced in November Voges would bring his trophy-laden eight-season stint in charge of WA’s domestic sides to an end at the conclusion of this summer in order to pursue opportunities on the franchise circuit. A listing posted to Seek late on Tuesday night says WA Cricket are seeking an “energetic leader” to take up the position on a two-year contract. “In this role, you will lead and manage all aspects of the WA men’s team programs, including coaching, player development, and performance strategies,” the ad reads. “You will oversee the design and delivery of integrated high performance programs, ensure alignment with national pathways, and foster a culture of excellence and accountability. “Working closely with support staff and key stakeholders, you will play a critical role in building sustainable success for Western Australian teams and players.” The requirements for the role include holding Level 3 Cricket Australia Coaching Accreditation, with a “detailed understanding of, and networks in, Western Australian cricket” considered desirable. Barely a year after playing his final game for the State, Voges was appointed to succeed his former teammate Justin Langer as coach of WA in 2018. He was in charge for one of domestic cricket’s greatest ever golden eras, with his side winning three consecutive Sheffield Shield titles in the 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons and five One-Day Cup Titles during his tenure. Voges has also been at the helm for three of Perth Scorchers’ Big Bash League titles, including the club’s sixth championship, which they claimed by toppling Sydney Sixers in The Final on Sunday. The Scorchers announced in December Voges had signed a one-year contract extension to remain in charge next season, meaning the club’s coaching role will be split from WA in domestic cricket for the first time in their 15-year history. He has also been appointed as head coach at Major League Cricket club Seattle Orcas and will serve as an assistant at Trent Rockets in England’s The Hundred. Voges’ long-time assistants Tim MacDonald and Beau Casson would likely be among the leading candidates for WA’s coaching role if they were to put their credentials forward. WA’s coaching position has been stable across the modern era, with only Voges and Justin Langer leading the State across the last 14 years.
