The first installation of next-generation Starlink internet has just been completed on Emirates’ flagship A380.
A classic has been given a new lease of life.
For the Emirates A380 was one of the first commercial aircraft in the world to offer internet to travellers — though the first generation of this had a total aircraft bandwidth of less than 1 Mbps.
The new Starlink configuration is capable of delivering more than 2 Gbps of total aircraft bandwidth across the cabin.
A spokesperson for the airline says: “Emirates’ installation of three Starlink antennas on each A380 will improve the wi-fi available onboard 1000-fold.”

The first Emirates A380 aircraft equipped with Starlink returned to Dubai this week, having had the system installed and certified in Newquay, in the UK.
More A380s are scheduled for installation throughout 2026.
It will give Emirates customers the ability to stream, game, browse and work throughout their flight on personal devices.
Starlink wi-fi will be complimentary for all customers, across all cabins, with easy sign-up and access.
The spokesperson adds: “Future enhancements will include live TV streaming over Starlink, initially on personal devices and later integrated into seatback screens.”
After the initial installation in the UK, Starlink installations will soon begin at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai.
It will be installed across the fleet.
Twenty-five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are already equipped with Starlink and now the first A380 has joined the service.
A380 STORY
The “double-decker” Emirates A380 has consistently redefined long-haul travel, from the first Onboard Lounge to the First Class Shower Spa.
But underpinning its success, for passengers, is the “lower altitude” cabin pressure and higher humidity level.
