Damien Lyndon Woods: Man accused of serious assaults days after being bailed to Katanning remanded in custody

A man accused of sparking a police chase, during which he allegedly drove head-on at officers trying to stop him, has been slapped with a string of fresh charges, most of which are from when he was on bail. Damien Lyndon Woods, 41, appeared from custody at Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 19, on nine new offences. Mr Woods was charged with three counts of breaching a police order, two counts of aggravated common assault, three counts of aggravated unlawful assault causing bodily harm, and persistently engaging in family violence. Three of the 41-year-old’s new charges stem from before his June 12 arrest, while the remaining six are from after he was granted bail on June 13 — one being a breach of a police order in Lockyer on the very same day. Sgt Dylan Fisher had opposed bail when it was applied for on June 13, warning that he believed Mr Woods would soon re-offend and noting he had only recently been released from prison. Magistrate Erin O’Donnell granted Mr Woods bail on strict conditions that he live at a Katanning address with a curfew from 9pm to 6am, offer a personal undertaking of $5000, and complete urine analysis testing. While on bail in Katanning on June 16, Mr Woods allegedly committed two aggravated unlawful assaults causing bodily harm, one aggravated common assault and breached a police order. He is also alleged to have persistently engaged in family violence from June 11 to 16. Defence lawyer Kyah Langdon did not make another bail application on his behalf. Mr Woods was remanded in custody and will next appear in Albany Magistrates Court on July 7 for legal advice.
