Kurt David Charlton: Former Perth primary school teacher charged with sex offences has case adjourned

A suspended Perth primary school teacher accused of a raft of child sex offences has had his court case adjourned until next month. Kurt David Charlton, 28, appeared via video link from custody in Central Local Court on Tuesday on child sex offences police accuse him of committing while babysitting for several families. Wearing prison greens and glasses with his long hair pulled back into a bun he replied, “ yes”, when asked by Magistrate Gavin MacLean to confirm his name. Mr Charlton has been charged with one count of sexual penetration of a child under 13 and four counts each of indecently dealing with a child under 13 and indecently recording a child under 13. The youngest of Mr Charlton’s alleged victims was less than two years old. His lawyer Max Crispe asked for the case to be adjourned until August 27 for legal advice which was granted by Magistrate MacLean. During a previous court appearance, when Mr Charlton unsuccessfully sought bail, the court heard Mr Charlton had, “a multitude of babysitting clients,” across several Perth suburbs. The court was told police had been investigating the 28-year-old for almost four months by the time he was arrested in June, and that he’d had his teaching registration suspended as a result of that probe on February 28.
