Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault announced their on-field leaders for season 2021 at Brunswick Oval last week. Jono Fenwick was confirmed as the club’s standalone captain, after previously holding the position with David Newman. Newman’s retirement at the end of last season cleared the way for Fenwick to take the role by himself, with the club electing to move away from the co-captaincy system. The pair were also co-captains during the club’s unbeaten premiership season in 2019. Durable defender Ben Ablett and small-forward Ty Armitage have taken over as the club’s vice-captains, replacing Zac Piper and Jonathon Sabourne. Jono won’t be the only Fenwick leading a side out this season either, with Sarah Fenwick named as Britanny Gliddon’s co-captain for the women’s side, replacing Sarah Joyce in the role. Shannon Sabourne will lead the reserves again as they hunt a fourth straight premiership. The Lions open their season on Saturday against Busselton at Sir Stewart Bovell Park.
