Clayton John Finger: Former jockey appears in Mandurah court accused of jumping from car with child

A 36-year-old man accused of injuring a child after jumping from a moving car while holding them appeared briefly in Mandurah Magistrates Court last Tuesday. Clayton John Finger appeared via videolink from Casaurina Prison on charges of unlawful assault occasioning bodily harm in circumstances of aggravation, acts causing bodily harm to a person, common assault in circumstances of aggravation and having care of a child engaging in conduct that was reckless and may have resulted in that child suffering. Mr Finger was travelling in a Nissan Pathfinder on Gordon Road on May 27 when police claim he jumped from the car while holding the child. The child sustained minor injuries, while Mr Finger was admitted to the ICU. He missed his first court appearance in May as he was in hospital in a critical condition. Mr Finger is a former jockey who lost his girlfriend in a freak riding accident in 2013 while the pair were working at Greenside Thoroughbreds Stables. He was not required to enter a plea and made an application for legal aid. Mr Finger will reappear via videolink in July. Lifeline 13 11 14
