The walkways in Perth’s CBD looked more like rivers on Sunday as the Swan River burst its banks, but that didn’t stop adventure-seeking West Aussies.
The storm has settled in over Perth, with the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting that destructive wind gusts in excess of 125km an hour likely in Perth on Sunday afternoon and evening.
Stormy scenes were evident throughout the city on Sunday morning. Along with the iconic Rowing Shed in the CBD being partly submerged, multiple cars parked up by the river were also partly submerged as flood waters gushed into car parks.
After the Swan River burst its banks, Riverside Drive was submerged with water but intrepid joggers splashed through the puddles to get their hit of weekend exercise.
Flooding was also seen at Shelley Foreshore in Rossmoyne as wind-whipped water swallowed benches and blew over bins.
But it was in Applecross where the true West Aussie spirit shone through as joggers fought through the wind and wing foilers took to the water.
Winger Daniel Van Der Sluys took to the sky off Applecross foreshore with a hazy CBD behind him.
