That’s where we’ll leave it

Only a couple trades going through, but plenty bubbling away ahead of the final day of trading tomorrow.

A reminder that there is a trading freeze until 11am AWST tomorrow, just to add to the drama.

There’s aot of big names still on the table and the clock is ticking so be sure to check in when we fire up the blog for one last time just before 11 tomorrow.

Leek Aleer stays at GWS

This was always on the cards after St Kilda suddenly backflipped on their commitment.

Aleer was overseas, so he could not test with other clubs.

Remains at the Giants with a new two-year deal per multiple reports.

Bombers miss Hawks' deadline

Budarick trade approved

Hawks reportedly put timer on Merrett offer

Hawthorn made their move earlier today but are not giving the Bombers long for their right of reply.

According to reports in The Age the Hawks have given Essendon until 7pm AEST to respond to their offer or pick No.9 would be taken off the table.

Hawthorn offered Pick 9, their 2026 first-round pick, a second-round pick (2025 or 2026) and either a future fourth or Henry Hustwaite in exchange for the Bombers captain.

“In the email, sent to Essendon list manager Matt Rosa, coach Brad Scott and Bombers president Andrew Welsh, and described to this masthead by multiple sources who had read the email, Hawthorn argued their offer was fair and reasonable,” the report read.

The Hawks are willing to listen to counter-offers for the non-first-round portions of the deal, but will begin talks with rival clubs about Pick 9 after 7pm.

The report also hinted Hawks forward Mitch Lewis is not off the table.

Connor Budarick gets to the Bulldogs

This one had been bubbling away since the trade period opened with the Suns’ small forward joining the Bulldogs for picks 37 and 70.

The Bulldogs received pick 37 yesterday, from GWS after a deal saw them slide back two spots to pick 14, having given up pick 12.

The Suns initially wanted pick 33.

Budarick played a career-best 19 games this year as a pressure forward, having suffered two knee injuries early in his career.

Jiath reportedly agrees to Melbourne deal

Changkuoth Jiath has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal to join Melbourne, although a trade still needs to be worked out.

He would be a like-for-like replacement for Judd McVee, who left to join Fremantle last week.

AFL ticks off Fiorini trade

A trade! Fiorini to the Bombers

Finally, we have a player move today with Brayden Fiorini joining Essendon for a 2026 third-round pick.

Fiorini was an unrestricted free agent, but the Bombers elected to trade so as not to dilute their compo pick for Sam Draper.

The Suns wingman has played 123 games in 10 seasons, including both finals this year.
