Australia’s skipper has his say on where things went wrong - and starts at the start with their woeful batting performance after winning the toss.

“I thought our prep was spot on, no excuses,” he said.

“They played well. We had to find a way to bat longer and then we couldn’t penetrate with the ball.

“Every time there’s a game like this, you look at match-ups. We’ve just finished the game, so we’ll think about it (batting changes). We’re pretty good at bouncing back.

“They outplayed us in all facets. They were patient and disciplined.”

There were a few contenders here, but it’s Hasan Mahmud who rightly earns the nod.

He snared nine wickets for the match and set the tone from the outset. He got both Aussie openers in each innings, took the key scalp of Steve Smith amid six first-innings wickets, and effectively finished things off today when he prised out centurion Cam Green.

“They will be very happy for me. My people will be celebrating,” he says.

The Bangadesh players and staff are rightly thrilled with this achievement.

“It was excellent cricket from us,” says Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

“Excellent performance from the team, showed our character. We had the belief.”
