
Busselton continued their recent dominance over local rivals Augusta-Margaret River in round 15 of the South West Football League after winning their fifth straight Busselton Toyota Cup clash by 78-points at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Saturday.
The fixture marked 30 years of sponsorship from Busselton Toyota, with the Magpies winning nine out of the last 10 clashes dating back to 2021.
The 15.19 (109) to 4.7 (31) loss was the Hawks’ fourth on the trot, but all of them were to teams in the top five on the ladder currently.
The win was also Busselton’s 13th on the trot, having still not lost a game so far in season 2026.
Hawks came to play early even taking the lead during the opening minutes but Busselton wrestled back control to have a 19-point lead at the main break.
After half-time the Magpies piled on the goals while also keeping Hawks to just three behinds to secure another big win.
In the women’s competition Busselton made light work of Augusta-Margaret River with a 54-point win.
The 9.8 (62) to 1.2 (8) loss is the Hawks second in a row, with both to the top two teams in the competition as the Magpies remain unblemished atop of the ladder with 12-wins in a row.
The Hawks fought hard early but the experience and skill of the Magpies side was too much to handle.
Amalie Drake-Brockman was the lone goal kicker for the Hawks while Summer Cunningham and Isla Drake-Brockman continued their great form for the inaugural Hawks side.
After the country championships bye the run for finals heats up straightaway as the Hawks travel to Carey Park for two a must-win games if either side wants to feature in finals.
